Sichuan Opera Next Gen was initiated in 2021 and is still in the progress of construction. Its primary aim is to bridge the generation gap between old and young fans of Sichuan Opera, expand its popularity, and preserve its cultural heritage. It has hosted two cultural events in two different cities, and it will continue to bring tradition into innovative modern practice. Our Story
Sichuan opera next-gen departs from Nankai High School and the Chongqing Sichuan Opera Fans Association (CSOFA). The older generation of Sichuan Opera fans shared their understanding of Sichuan opera and also shared photos of Sichuan Opera performances on the platform. We invited the first batch of 50 participants from the 10th and 11th-grade students of Nankai High School to communicate with friends from the Sichuan Opera Fan Association on the platform. The general conclusion was that they communicated well with the old fans and learned a lot about the untold beauty of Sichuan Opera.
One of the participants shared her feelings:
"I never imagined I would become good friends and share the same hobby with this group of older people, who are even older than my grandparents."
The success of the first participants attracted more students to join our community. Participants also invited their friends from outside of school, older siblings, parents, and more people crossing ages who would like to learn about the Sichuan Opera. As the community expanded, we now not only have participants from different high schools but also invited college students from different cities in China, as well as working adults.
